In One Study, a Heart Benefit for Chocolate

People who eat chocolate have increased survival rates after a heart attack, according to a paper in The Journal of Internal Medicine. Those who had chocolate less than once a month had a 27 percent reduction in their risk for cardiac death, compared to 66 percent for twice or more a week. Chocolate contains flavonoid antioxidants, and may also lower blood pressure. However, this was an observational study, not a randomized trial, so cause and effect cannot be definitively established.
